I am so excited to share this cocktail with you for a variety of reasons!
The first being gin a spirit that is rooted in spice, with, naturally, juniper being the main focus. However, many popular gin cocktails seem to take the focus away from the botanical nature of this spirit, and instead focus on the citrus and sweeteners. The idea of infusing with saffron came to mind — and while it is certainly not a new concept (dating back to the 19th century), many people today would expect Saffron to appear in their risotto, rather than their drink.
The second reason I wanted to share this cocktail is that the saffron syrup gives the drink an amazing kick.
- In a mixing glass add gin, saffron syrup, and lime juice
- Stir mixture then add tonic water, stir again
- Add ice to serving glass then pour mixture over ice
- Garnish with a pinch of saffron and lime
Yields: 1 serving
Garnish: pinch of saffron and ½ of lime
